    As the senior art director on this piece, I worked with our senior graphic designer in a supervisory and mentoring role; approving creative and providing feedback, changes and tweaks. By allowing the senior designer come up with the creative concept for this and similar projects, I empower and collaborate with seasoned creative personnel, trouble shooting as needed and creating an atmosphere for effective concept development.

    Other stakeholders involved in the execution of this project include the creative manager, layout artists, art buyers, set designers, photography team, copywriters, and marketing representatives - all working together to ensure the piece meets all creative, branding and strategic marketing objectives.

  • Sales Event Advertising Series
    A series of Advertising templates designed for local stores that choose to run the Canadian Tire (CT) customer loyalty events at any point in the year. By creating Advertising templates for local CT stores, we are able to keep a tight control on the proper use of brand.

    With the address & store hour lines being the only editable fields, the Advertising templates are simply downloaded and sent to the publishing magazine or Newspaper group

  • Worldsites Network - Brand Piece
    For a company that had a logo but had never banded itself and as such, had no brand cohesiveness; the challenge was developing a strong brand that would be tied visually into any media. While at Worldsites this creative was integrated online, smart phones, on sales sheets, exhibition displays, brochures, newsletters and corporate catalogue. We also developed a branding guideline as these pieces had to be usable and printed across the globe in any jurisdiction.

  • Retail Flyers
    Typically, Flyers are used to drive up sales, both in-store and online. A new look and feel is developed for each line of business (LOB) and used throughout the yearly campaign season. Each concept is adjusted repeatedly to suit the particular sale or event. Flyers appear as print as well as online for easy browsing with pop up window containing more information about each product as you mouse over them.

    Flyer creative is generally developed with input from the Senior Creative Director and other stakeholders like the LOB. All photography and copy direction is also developed with input from the LOB, in house Copy Writer and Art Buyer. Layout of all pages are then done in collaboration with the layout/production team, closely art directing each spread, and managing changes throughout the various stages of the project.

    Generally, flyers must be practically designed to deliver on multimillion dollar weekly sales goals. Similar projects are executed on a daily basis usually from detailed creative briefs. A successful design solution must not only be visually stimulating with easy information assimilation by the consumer, but must also adhere to strict creative and strategic strategies...never ever forgetting strong branding cues that very easily identify the store/brand putting out the piece.

  • Photography Direction: Hockey
    The idea was to shoot old hockey equipment on a real hockey player. This would be used as part of the execution of a hockey catalogue - one of the main tools in driving hockey sales.

The unique assortment of goods makes Canadian Tire a one stop shop for players at any level; from the learning junior to the semi-serious senior hockey player, so pricing and assortment needed to come across clearly, while keeping the design fresh and contemporary.

    This advert was placed on the back page of a memorabilia/collectable brochure. The brochure was all about the player, Kevin Westgarth - old pics of him as a child playing hockey, his progression through the hockey ranks, and a message from Kevin.

    30 page power-sports magalogue designed to present an assortment of products under this category, as well as to create a sense of excitement for the regular and/or weekend extreme sports enthusiast. The aim is to create and establish credibility in the minds of this demographic by showing Canadian Tire as the place to go for those sporting needs – While still adhering to the core corporate mission of focusing on the family at all stages of their growth and sporting development.

    Every year Canadians are hit with a burst of winter - a curse or a blessing, depends where you live and if you've fully accepted the reality of our weather pattens. For the reason of safety on our roads during this period, some provinces have made it mandatory to have winter tires installed before the winter season hits. This small flyer (wrap) is targeted toward that growing market segment of Canadians, who seek to obey provincial laws, or simply want to keep as safe as possible on the road as they drive about discovering the incredible landscape beauty of the season.
